THE CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES PRESENTED BY JAPAN MGS Summit has confirmed several Japanese speakers, including Mike Tanji from Gaming Capital, as well as Awata Akira and Kazuaki Sasaki, etc., to share their professional views about opportunities and challenges on the opening of the gaming market in Japan, as well as to discuss the current situation and future development of Japanese Integrated Resorts. As announced last week, Gaming Capital’s Mike Tanji is scheduled to give an informative talk on the opening of the gaming market in Japan. During this process, the Japanese government is focused on avoiding the potential pitfalls of the gaming industry spurring illegal lending and problem gambling. As a tech-forward society, Japanese are already eager consumers of cutting-edge entertainment interfaces, as well as their own nearly century-old, slot machine-like game pachinko. Technology, in addition to well-structured regulation, will play an important role in building integrity into the Japanese market. Improved surveillance technology will make it far easier for gaming companies know their customers and their employees, with facial recognition allowing for cross-checking of faces on the casino floor with databases of suspicious or prohibited persons. As Macau’s casinos have begun implementing cameras on ATMs to prevent money laundering, gaming jurisdictions like Japan are watching and learning from what works here. Aside from security and regulation, technological advancements present Japan with tantalizing entertainment possibilities. The virtual reality capital of the world, Japan’s prowess in creating an immersive and emotionally-engaging user experience sets the bar. Gaming in the island nation will fuel increased interest in mobile applications that engage customers with the full offerings of gaming companies such as dining, hotel accommodations and shows. We’re bound to see some creative use of online and in-person technologies to invent a gaming industry with the unique flair the world has grown to expect from Japan. Innovation and Interactive is the theme of this year’s MGS Entertainment Show, and the new gaming market in Japan is a fascinating laboratory for developing innovative and interactive entertainment offerings. Register soon to attend the show 14-16 November to explore what new technology is doing for new markets. The three-day MGS Summit promises to bring interesting and valuable perspectives from a variety of voices in the broad-based gaming and entertainment industry. The Macau Gaming Equipment Manufacturers Association (MGEMA) is pleased that many exciting speakers have confirmed their participation in the summit. The guiding theme of this year’s show and summit is smart cities; and the lineup – with speakers of varying backgrounds, from government officials to marketing consultants to representatives of major tech giants — promises to offer something valuable for everyone. 1507867088679503.jpg Mr. Leo Liu, general manager of Alibaba Cloud in Hong Kong, will be a highlight of the summit’s first-day lineup. He will be speaking on the effects of the big data revolution on the smart-city model that is sweeping China. With Alibaba Cloud recently signing an agreement with the Macau SAR government to bring cloud infrastructure into Macau’s public services, big data and cloud computing are permanently changing the ways we interact with our city and each other. Affecting residents and tourists, students and businesses, the cloud-integrated smart city is the future. 1507867127320335.jpg With the parliament of Japan voting last year to stimulate the country’s economy and tourism industry by legalizing gaming, the new market in Japan has attracted the interest of several large gaming companies. A highlight on the third day of the MGS Summit is Mike Tanji’s talk on the development of new gaming markets in Asia, specifically Japan. With his training in law and broad background in government, the IT industry, gaming and entertainment, gained in Japan and the US, Mr. Tanji’s insights will be valuable to anyone with an interest in newly opening markets. MGS ENTERTAINMENT SHOW TO HOST POWERFUL HUMANOID FROM SHENZHEN 10/10/2017 Weighing in at 100 kg and measuring 145 cm, the new customer service-oriented robot named Sanbot King Kong will be greeting guests at the Qihan Technology Co., LTD booth at this year’s MGS Entertainment Show. The most noticeable differences between King Kong and his previous generation Sanbot Elf are King Kong’s larger size and dexterous arms. With functional shoulders, elbows and wrists and five individually motored fingers, King Kong’s movements are reassuringly familiar. His impressive physique and automatically-adjusting center of gravity allow him to carry an impressive 75 kg of freight, and the brackets on the front of King Kong’s body can hook up to different-size trays, storage boxes, printer, large monitors/screens and more. King Kong has also installed the 3D vision simultaneous localization and mapping (vSLAM) cameras to support indoor positioning and navigation, autonomous route planning tasks. He sprints at up to 3.5 times the speed of a normal human walk (maximum 5m/s) and can run up to 18 hours on a single charge, returning to the charging station automatically when his battery runs low. Elf, King Kong’s predecessor, has made a big splash in China, with deployment in shopping malls, commercial airports, and border crossings. Able to recognize faces, gesture toward doors and objects, respond to touch and even dance to music, Elf is proving that human-robot interaction will soon be the new normal. Elf’s expressive face and charming small-talk abilities have endeared her to children and adults alike, but her impressive navigation and sensor skills have really impressed the geeks out there. Like a human, she maneuvers effortlessly around obstacles in complex environments and turns toward the voice speaking to her, but unlike humans she can detect body temperature and converse in dozens of languages. Elf and King Kong were designed for B2B applications in jobs such as hotel receptionist, restaurant server, museum tour guide, shop customer greeter, security screener, hospital patient monitor, and school teacher aid. King Kong can be specialized in casino to perform promotion tasks, casino navigation, and introduction of games with multiple languages and more, which will certainly benefit the gaming industry. You can interact with Elf and King Kong at the MGS Entertainment Show and experience for yourself what a Sanbot robot can do.
